When you have a horrifying case with heinous facts and sympathetic victims finding twelve members of the community that will be open to your defense can feel like the impossible task.  While you only have a limited number of preemptory challenges you are entitled to a limitless number of challenges for cause.  Strategic questioning of jurors to expose hidden bias and their inability to follow the law in high stakes cases is key to picking a jury that will give your client the best chance at a good outcome. We often think it is important to select fair and impartial people when in actuality it is far more important identify and remove people who are biased and unfair.
